PASHUPATINATH


This manifestation shows Shiva holding an axe and deer in his back hand, symbol of his sure victory over enemies and domination over animals. The gesture (Mudra) of his front hands offers devotees protection (abhaya) and wish fulfilment (Varada). Lord Shiva was named Pashupatinath by Lord Vishnu and other Goddess during the time of Tripura Samhar, when Shiva became the Lord of all Demons ( Pashu or beasts) and destroyed Tripura, the three cities of illusion which were being ruled by the Ashuras. The twelve Jyotirlinga (in India) is the body and the Jyotirlinga at Pashupatinath in Kathmandu (Nepal) is the head over this body. In Hinduism, it is believed that if an individual has committed many sins in life then he/she will not incarnate as a human being in the next life and rather will be born as an animal. He is the most benevolent God who is easily pleased by devotion. Every Hindus are absolutely keeping an idol of Lord Shiva in home for worship and devotion.

This idol characterise as Shiva Sukhasanamurti, copy of a 15th to 16th century one prepared for every home to offer devotion regularly.
