To fill the void between the market and the artisans and to erase the problem faced by this traditional artisan groups the role of M/s. Glaxy Exports is vital. This unit planned to fulfill the basic needs of this artisan communities and revive the craft in the region which is increasing day by day. The unit proves to be a helping hand to reanimate the artisans group to practice the craft with a new dimension by clustering among each other for new developments.
Since 1996 this unit started to participate in “Handicrafts and Gift Fair” at Pragati Maidan, N. Delhi. Now this art form become popular with every cross section of the society and it has crossed its territory overseas. Aimed at meaningful exposure of ‘Dokra’ art in global village, in the year of 2006, we have opened up a permanent show room for promoting the regional crafts at a strategic location at India’s most prestigious trade mart at “India Expo Mart”, Greater Noida, U.P. Now we have started to build up a “Craft Design Bank and Gallery” adjacent to our manufacturing unit.
This will be a well-equipped new facility to help the buyers and business community to visit manufacturing unit and museum to have a cursory look of the manufacturing process and reciprocity of customers’ need. We are proud that at least forty artisans could fend for themselves in this unit and we aspire to generate more employment and this is possible only with added infrastructure and expansion of on- going activity. In the soonest future Glaxy will perform design development workshops here for the betterment of neighboring crafts with neglected crafts and communities too.
Presently the products have a tremendous market potential inside and outside the country. Due to its peculiar antiquity motifs and tradition, this craft have a potential export possibility. Most of the products from the Eastern India exported to European and _ American continent through Delhi / Mumbai based exporters. The market within the country is immense and feel this product is the first choice of the elite for their home decoration. Being a metallic product, the product have no natural deterioration rather its price increasing as the flow of time make it antique. In spite of such great demand and liking for the products, the craft persons are unable to take advantage of the situation due to the fact that their lack of knowledge about the demand for their products due to their socio-economic status.
The product can also create a broad market for itself if the back ground / tradition / method of production of the craft duly published among the buyer and in deserving markets. In the modern world probably this is one of the oldest craft in its oldest method of production in oldest motifs and the same motifs will be a bit different from other even prepared by the same person. As such each piece / creation is a master creation.
Manufacturing of gifts and handicraft items is a trend-driven industry. New products are the life blood of a successful selling season. Design and style are the most important ingredients. The need of the hour is to be aware of the current trends and accordingly, develop Indian products to capture the market. As per the survey report by National Productivity Council (NPC) foreign tourists visiting India spend nearly Rs.3 crores on handicrafts during their stay in India. The purpose of the survey is to construct the craft / tourism index (per day expenditure of a tourist) for India as suggested by UNESCO.
As today’s approach of marketing is based on consumer orientation consisting of sensing, ‘ stimulating, servicing and satisfying the needs and wants of present and potential customers here and abroad in a more efficient manner than its competitor. In this global village scenario to maintain uniform marketing of handicrafts proper trade channels are the basic necessity. With emerging stringent international requirements related to end-end packaging, marking, labeling product authentication, etc. the adoption of these technologies as well as global standards assumes great significance for the Indian Industry.
Now handicraft sector is a highly employment generating sector as products here are basically manufactured in craft clusters by artisans and craft persons who belong to economically weaker section of the society, are mostly women workers or come from backward communities. Any increase in activities relating to handicrafts directly results in increasing the employment level for this segment of the society and further more it increases the GNP of the country.
